9News reports that Republican party officials in Colorado confirmed that Rep. Cory Gardner (R-Colorado) is entering the race for U.S. Senate, hoping to oust incumbent Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colorado).
At the same time, Weld County DA Ken Buck is dropping his bid to challenge Udall and is running for Gardner's House seat instead, GOP officials said.
Cory Gardner is currently the representative for Colorado's 4th US Congressional District. He defeated Betsy Markey, who was seeking re-election, in 2010.
Gardner is a CSU alumnus, earning his B.A. in political science. He went on to the Law School at University of Colorado to earn his Juris Doctor. He graduated summa cum laude from Colorado State University with a B.A. in political science.
Udall was elected in 2008 as the Senator after defeating Republican Bob Schaffer.
Ken Buck ran for Senate in 2010. He was defeated by current Senator Michael Bennett (D-Colorado).
